A million tales of man;
So lean in a little closer, friend –
Let me whisper what I can…
We came into this brilliant world
On the wings of yester-year –
When all around was splendour
And we knew not yet of fear.
The garden was the grandest place;
So ripe, and fresh and green;
And every word that passed our lips
Was kind – and never mean.
“Euphoria!” Our children sang,
As they ran – blissful – through the lea.
“Euphoria!” Our elders chirped
As they wandered, full of glee.
Each of us – from man to tot –
Kept a smile upon his face
And each of us knew paradise
When we were in that place.
Peace was in our every dream
When we knew not yet of war.
“Euphoria!” Was in our hearts
Before the Earth was tore.
Now lean in closer still, my friend,
As I tell you what was true
Listen closely, and you’ll know
What so very few souls do…
We lost those gardens in the end,
Not to rain – nor bitter snow
But it was greed that woke the chaos
And made our glorious gardens go.
Believe in evil serpent snakes –
If you truly feel you must –
But the devil resides in every man
And this is a wisdom you can trust.
Perhaps God made us to be good
But then he gave us each freewill
And if there is a being within the clouds,
He must regret this folly still.
For in each of us – despite the grace –
A wicked gremlin’s grown
And though goodness may still reside
It’s the wicked more oft shown…
We stripped the land of all its treasures
And ravaged beauty with cool desire
We laid waste to all once pure
And set “Euphoria!” afire.
We closed our ears, and walled our hearts
As we sought to rule it all
And deaf we were to all who suffered
As we held them in our thrall.
Until one day we looked about
And saw what we had done
And each of us found we no longer wanted
The things we’d thought we’d won.
So now we pray for God to save us,
From the horror that we’ve built.
We curse at him for being cruel
While ignoring our own guilt.
But freewill gives us each the power
To seek a second chance
And freewill gives us each the choice
To exit from this dance.
And yet we wait still for salvation
To come down from the skies
And every day that we sit idle
Another piece of “Euphoria!” dies.
Yet there is still hope to change our fate;
To sow the seeds of peace anew
There is a chance to bring back our gardens,
And the dream that once there grew…
But it’s up to us to heal scars
That we’ve set upon this land.
It’s up to us to find “Euphoria!”
And rebuild something grand.
So take these words of wisdom, friend
And let them guide you on your way;
Make your mark upon this world
But remember what I say…
Take this gift of life you have
And in living, remain wise
Think before you make your actions
And never – ever – close your eyes.
Live a life that’s full of wonder
Despite the errors that you make
And strive in everything you do
To give as often as you take.
Offer kindness, as you walk
And reach out a hand to those in need.
Lay “Euphoria!” within your steps
And help the Earth no longer bleed.
Keep the dream within your mind
And the hope within your heart
And then – perhaps – we’ll resurrect
What once we tore apart.
